Michigan House Bill 5085, newly signed by the Governor, amends the Public Health Code to allow a veterinarian to consult with an animal owner on the use of marijuana or industrial hemp on the owner’s animal. This is great news for veterinarians and pets in the state.
As in California, legislation that allows for open communication within the practice setting aims to ensure that pet parents are free to have this important discussion with their veterinary medical team. This will enable pet families to seek health care information from reliable sources and ultimately, lead to the highest probability of a successful outcome in utilizing cannabinoid therapy.
